Q & A with U

If any of you have time, won't you share some thoughts with me? When it comes to discipleship and/or Spiritual Formation, what experiences have you had that have made a significant impact on your life. If you were going to hone in on a few key things about discipleship or Spiritual Formation, what would they be?

Thanks

Great question, Arlene. And one I am particularly interested in, so I'll look forward to reading the responses.

Right now I am at a place in my relationship with God where I just cherish time alone with Him. The way I spend time with John. Just being together and not necessarily talking.

I've found a spot close to my house to have these quiet times. And I long to visit that trysting place the way I used to long for my boyfriend to come knocking on my window in secret.

This beatitude comes to mind: "Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for God for they will be filled with Him" [in my own words].

Time. And not quite the same way Amy said. I mean age, experience, wisdom. Of course, all the age and experience will mean nothing if you have not focused on time the way Amy meant it, but even then, it does not happen instantly. Formation comes about from your experiences and your actions and reactions. Keep the focus where it should be, and the spiritual formation will be handed to you, by the Spirit. I don't think it is something you can force, though you can make it your focus.

When events or moments in my life are unexplainable-- more than secular "luck" or providence. An event you did not see coming, would not have prayed for, would not have thought of,-- yet it was the perfect item at the perfect time (even if you only figure it out later). Those moments transform me beyond today's earth. Also, anything that takes me out of our community and into a world perspective-- what are God's chief concerns today? The big battles, the fight for souls, the hunger of millions, the killing of thousands. These things make my wishes today seem very small for a big God.
