Surgery

The date has been set for March 30th. I will be sliced and diced and about 11 inches or so of my colon will be removed. Bye bye ugly little pockets of infection and hello a bag of popcorn! There are so many foods that I am unable to eat with this condition and it is getting old! At least, I should have a pay off of being thin. But no.....
On a more serious note. I am not the bravest soul when it comes to medical stuff, or much else really. I am timid about things like that. I am not looking forward to going through this but I know I will be better on the other side - No, I do not mean heaven either. Just, the other side of the procedure. But right now, I am feeling a little anxious about the kids, about me, about the pain, about David....and so the list goes on.
Just thought I would journal some of this so I get it out of my head and worry veins.

Arlene, I blogged over from Mike’s blog and noticed you are going to have surgery. I understand the anxiety you are experiencing. I had not been under for surgery until a couple of years ago. Last week I again went under the scalpel. I know God is a God of peace and I know how important peace is. Anxiety and worry are only flags to let us know God is in control, and therefore we must give every thing over to him. I will pray that God will give you and your family peace no matter were the other side is.

Hi Arlene. Believe me I have a very good idea of what you are going through. One thing I did to help me relax and heal faster after surgery was to make a tape/recording of relaxing music that lasted about an hour or so and then I got permission to listen to it during the procedure. It was playing when I went under and it was still on when I began to come to. Practice relaxing with the music playing several times a day and you'll be surprised how fast you find yourself relaxing before your surgery.

Bless you and your family. I will keep you in my prayers. I know you will feel so much better when this is over and that God has wonderful things planned for you!

If you would like to talk about your surgery, please get my number from Angela and call me. I'd love to talk to you!

Thanks for the encouragement guys! Donna, Spencer is 5 today (2/20) which made me sad when I thought that was Michaela's age when we moved. You were great neighbors!
Dana, I may just go ahead and give you a call when I get anxious, thank you. We had a good party for Steven.
Clint, do I know you from ACU? Your name is so familiar and I have a face in mind, but am not sure if it is you?

Arlene, you name sounds familiar as well. You may know me from ACU my face looks a lot like Brad Pitt’s face:)

Clint you are cracking me up! When were you there. David and I were there from 91-96. We were married a little older, both Bible majors and then David did a graduate degree in Christian Ed. I worked for Jack Reese and Charles Siburt as a student worker and David worked for Jim Mankin and then Ian Fair as a student worker. We are from South Africa. Is any of this sounding familiar?

Yes, I was there from 93-96 and a Bible major but I don't have any big names to drop.

Obviously you know that I only gave the "names" as "road markers" to help identify us :-).
Yes, I am pretty sure I do know you Clint, in fact I am positive. I will get out the Prickly Pear tonight and begin searching to make sure I am right.
Great to connect and hey, thanks for the encouragement about the surgery.

Arlene,
Keep us posted about the surgery. I'll be praying for it to go well with a complete recovery. Then all the popcorn you could want!
